Fibroids that develop on the muscle layer of the uterus are masses that can be seen in 20 out of every 100 women. The reason for the formation of these masses is not known exactly. Fibroids, which are generally benign, are seen in almost fifty per cent of women over the age of 50. Fibroids usually develop in more than one number. Treatment of fibroids can be done in different ways. Fibroid surgery is one of the treatment methods applied.
What is Fibroid Surgery?
If fibroids do not cause any discomfort in the person, they can only be followed and treatment may not be applied. Fibroids usually shrink spontaneously after menopause. However, if fibroids cause discomfort and symptoms, drug treatment can be applied to eliminate these problems. Forthe treatment of fibroids, the doctor completes the examination and examinations and examines the size of the fibroid, the number of fibroids and similar data. Pelvic examination and abdominal ultrasound examinations are performed for the diagnosis of fibroids. If the fibroids are growing, causing pain and bleeding, the doctor can remove the fibroids by performing fibroid surgery. This procedure is also called myomectomy.
What is Fibroid Surgery?
How is fibroid surgery performed?
Fibroid surgery can be performed with traditional methods or innovative surgical techniques. This surgery, which can be performed vaginally or through abdominal incision, has two types as closed and open. Whether this surgery, which is performed under general anaesthesia, will be closed or open is determined depending on the evaluations of the doctor.
Open Fibroid Surgery
Open fibroid surgery is performed in the traditional way and the fibroid is accessed through an incision in the abdomen. These surgeries are usually applied to people who are not suitable for closed fibroid surgery. If the patient has a history of surgery with a vertical incision in the abdomen, closed surgery may not be performed and the open method may be preferred. In addition, if the fibroids are very large and the number is very high, open surgery may be preferred. There are many advantages such as shorter recovery time in closed surgery, but the advantage of complete cleaning of the area and comfortable movement in open surgery may also cause this method to be preferred.
Closed Fibroid Surgery
Closed surgery is also called laparoscopic surgery. Inlaparoscopic myomectomy, also known as closed myoma surgery, no incision method is applied to patients. In this way, the patient's postoperative recovery and return to daily life is much shorter compared to the open method. Closed surgery can be applied by different methods. One of these methods is laparoscopy and the other is hysteroscopy. The hysteroscopy procedure is the completion of the operation by entering the uterus with the help of a special camera and devices. Laparoscopy is an operation performed through small points in the abdomen. Patients stay in hospital for a shorter period of time after closed surgery and recover substantially within 3-4 weeks on average. If the fibroids are below a certain size, the number of fibroids is less than 3 and the number of fibroids is less than 3 and the number of fibroids is less than 3.
Things to Consider After Fibroid Surgery
Things to Consider After Fibroid Surgery
After fibroid surgery, there are some factors that the person should pay attention to. People who are sensitive during the healing process can recover faster and return to their daily lives. After open surgery, there will be an incision of approximately 6-8 centimetres in the lower abdomen and this incision area may need to be dressed regularly. It is very important to pay attention to the recommendations given by the doctor and to avoid sexual intercourse and exercises that will strain the operation area for a while. The healing process varies from person to person. While some people recover within a few weeks, it may take up to 4-6 months for people who undergo open surgery and have a large number and large fibroids to recover. In this process, paying attention to wound hygiene, taking into account the issues recommended and not recommended by the doctor, and not interrupting the controls are the issues that the patient should pay attention to.
